Kelly Clarkson continued the country music tradition of honoring the Nashville Predators with the national anthem on Thursday, May 18. Nashville Predators fans heading downtown on foot to Game Four of their Stanley Cup playoffs against the Anaheim Ducks were overhead guessing that Kelly Clarkson would be the night’s National Anthem performer.

To their surprise, the 35-year-old powerhouse really did step onto the ice at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena wearing a No. 82 Preds jersey to deliver a soaring version of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The Smashville crowd roared with excitement, as she beautifully put her signature pipes on the famous song.

Kelly didn’t take part in the ceremonial towel-wave prior to the NHL playoffs game though. Instead, that role went to Rock band Kings of Leon who dutifully waved their rally towels. During the game, Clarkson tweeted, “Dear @PredsNHL please win, or people will blame me! #ANAvsNSH Go Preds!”

But unfortunately, Clarkson’s plea didn’t work. The Ducks beat the Predators 3-2 in overtime. The Western Conference Final continues Saturday (May 20) in Anaheim.
