We’ve made it through summer and finally crept into the fall season, so you know what that means… Pumpkin spiced EVERYTHING. Coffee and donuts, beer and vodka, manufacturers are adding this seasonal flavor to anything they think they can sell. While someĀ of it may work, most of it doesn’t. One recipe we’ve come across that certainly does, is this bourbon.

This isn’t about some artificial flavored bourbon, who would want that. We’re talking about the real deal, do it yourself pumpkin spiced bourbon. It may take a little bit of time, but it’s well worth it. Check out the recipe below:

Pumpkin Spice Bourbon Whiskey

  • 1 (750 mL) bottle of bourbon whiskey
  • 1 tbsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 sugar pumpkin

Step 01: De-seed your pumpkin and cut it into slices. Lay them on a prepared baking sheet (single layer), and roast them at 350F for 45-60 minutes.

Step 02: Pour the whiskey into a mason jar or another air-tight container. I used a 1.5 L mason jar, so I would have plenty of room.

Step 03: Add the roasted pumpkin and the pumpkin pie spice.

Step 04: Put the container somewhere safe and leave it alone for the next two weeks. I kept mine on top of the fridge and, every once in a while, I would shake it and then put it back.

Step 05: Once your two weeks are up, strain the whiskey using cheesecloth or a nut milk bag.

Once strained, you can drink this immediately. If you find the taste to be too strong, though, put it back in its air tight container and let it sit for another week. This will give the flavors time to mellow a little. (Recipe Source)
